OJOS DE GATA - CAT'S EYES

This is without any doubt one of the most beautiful Spanish songs I have ever heard. The tragic death by overdose in 1999 of the singer, Enrique Urquijo, only adds to its everlasting magic. It tells of the time he met a girl and discovered he was only a simple human being.
I saw Los Secretos at the Luz de Gas in Barcelona in one of the last concerts they gave before he died. The group goes on, with his brother Alvaro at the front.... but its not quite the same.

The video is courtesy of youtube.com and, especially, jmartiramos. Thank you both.
Lyrics below, together with translation.

Fue en un pueblo con mar
(It was in aseaside town)
una noche después de un concierto.
(One night after a concert.)
Tu reinabas detrás de la barra
(You ruled behind the counter)
del único bar que vimos abierto.
(Of the only bar we found open.)
"Cántame una canción al oido
("Sing a song to my ear)
te sirvo y no pagas."
(I'll serve you and you won't pay.")
"Solo canto si tu me demuestras
("I'll only sing if you show me)
(that the light in your cat's eyes is green.")
(Crazy for her to give me her bedroom keys)
(that night I sang to the dawn's piano all of my repertoire.)
With an "I want to drink" I settled between her sheets)
(and I dreamed of her cat's eyes, but forgot she expected something of me.)
(I woke up with a hangover a looked for her but she wasn't there.)
(They said she got angry 'cause I got drunk and used her as a pillow.)
(She said I was nothing but an ordinary fellow.)
Pero ¿Cómo explicar que me vuelvo vulgar
(But how do I explain that I become ordinary)
al bajarme de cada escenario?
(Everytime I come off the stage)
Pero ¿Cómo explicar que me vuelvo vulgar
(But how do I explain that I become ordinary)
al bajarme de cada escenario?
(Everytime I come off the stage.)

IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE - ROXETTE

So many things end, yet what can be sadder than the final realisation that a love story is over? I say "love story" rather than "love affair" to emphasise the depth of feelings. I'm talking of course about love between two people and not family love, although that too sometimes comes to an end. Love affairs tend to be short and superficial and generally devoid of deep feelings. Love stories, on the other hand, are what love is really all about. I'm sure the vast majority of us have experienced the breaking up of a special relationship with a person we loved. I certainly did, both a teenager and as an adult. I cried, with real tears, when I was just a kid, and I cried, deep inside, when I was older.
Here's Roxette telling us about the love she lost. I love this song and chose this version, although the official video is much better, because she sings alone, and the crowd is overwhelmingly with her. They're shouting "Otra! Otra!", meaning "Another one". I love her strong but at the same time lovely and sensual voice. IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE, courtesy of youtube.com and marcoapcosta. Thank you both. For other versions try:
For a good unplugged version, go to:
Enjoy. As usual, Lyrics are below.

Lay a whisper on my pillow. Leave the winter on the ground.
I wake up lonely, there's air of silence in the bedroom and all around.
Touch me now. I close my eyes and dream away...

It must have been love, but it's over now.
It must have been good, but I lost it somehow.
It must have been love, but it's over now.
From the moment we touched till the time had run out.

Make believing we're together, that I'm sheltered by your heart.
But in and outside I turn to water, like a teardrop in your palm.
And it's a hard winter's day; I dream away...

It must have been love, but it's over now.
It was all that I wanted, now I'm living without.
It must have been love, but it's over now.
It's where the water flows, it's where the wind blows.
It must have been love,

YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE

It's been two long never-ending months since I last posted a song. Illness, I'm afraid, has been the cause. details in http://www.joesblogpage.blogspot.com/
Anyway, it became quite clear while I was in hospital that I was not alone. Family, friends, colleagues, even the hospital staff, all helped me through what could have proved a traumatic experience. I am pleased to say I have recovered from the heart problem I suffered, though I 'm on a rather strict diet at the moment.
This song illustrates the feeling that accompanied me during my ten-day stay in hospital. I particularly like the original Gerry and the Pacemakers version, though countless others have been made. The song is taken, of course, from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical "Carousel", and both lyrics and music are simply extraordinary. Lioverpool football Club have adopted it as their Hymn and it was particularly, and very emotionally, satisfying to watch the crowd and hear them sing it when they came to Barcelona three years ago. Needless to say, with such support they won.
I chose this particular version from youtube.com because it's gerry's original song with the lyrics superimposed on the Liverpool FC flag, Thank you youtube, com and thank you toga 1989 who posted it. Enjoy.

HOTEL CALIFORNIA - THE EAGLES

WOW! What a song.... and what a group! You can't think of them without thinking of the whole scene back in the years when so many of us protested. Has it been worth while? Of course it has. Maybe not as much as the more idealists among us wanted, but there has certainly been progress. Today's leaders were the young ones then, and they have undoubtedly been influenced by the songs written then, whether by The Beatles, Bob Dylan or The Eagles, and by the many demonstrations in which they also participated.

This song in particular brings back an awful lot of memories, not the least of them when I heard my son sing it for the first time with his group. Tears literally flooded my eyes.

And here they are, singing it unplugged, years later (1994), older, wiser, better and obviously enjoying it and very pleased with the result, as can be deduced from the mutual congratulations at the end!

Listen to it... slowly, gently, lovingly. Savour its delicious introduction, both guitar and bongos, as the tempo gradually increases, till the applause finally bursts out and those unforgettable words come out: "On a dark desert highway..." A remarkable performance. Absolutely fantastic. Unrepeatable. Simply genius. Love it. Love the Spanish guitar flavour. . Hope you will too. Lyrics below. Video courteousy of youtube.com and marvtheeguy; thank you both.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair,
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air,
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light,
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night.
There she stood in the doorway; I heard the mission bell,
And I was thinking to myself: "This could be heaven or this could be hell".
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way,
There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say...

"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place, such a lovely face.
Plenty of room at the Hotel California,
Any time of year, you can find it here."

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends.
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends.
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget.
So I called up the captain: "Please bring me my wine.
"He said: We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen-sixty-nine."
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say...

"Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place, such a lovely face.
Living it up at the Hotel California,
What a nice surprise, bring your alibies."

Mirrors on the ceiling, pink champagne on ice,
And she said: "We are all just prisoners here of our own device."
And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast,
They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast.
Last thing I remember, I was running for the door,
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before.
"Relax," said the night man. "We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!"

PINK MARTINI

Curious really, just when Martini launch the pink version of their famous beverage, I go and discover this group that's been going for fifteen odd years. This is their web site and you'll find there everything you'll want to know about them.

http://pinkmartini.com/home/
And here's a video of their song "La soledad" (Loneliness). Lovely "Chopin" piano intro, rich tenor voice and a sensually delicious tango rythm that simply seduces your body into swaying to the music, all combine to make listening to it a truly enjoyable experience which I strongly recommend, just as I urge you to listen to "Splendor in the grass"; a simple country tune (reminiscent of "Burning Bridges" from the Kelly's Heroes film) with simple country lyrics, leading in to a slow version of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concierto nº1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZyp2j3Jabg

Lyrics and translation below the video (Thank you youtube.com and MagicBlondGirl). Photos on the left.

(You came to me like poetry in a song)
Mostrándome un nuevo mundo de pasión
(Showing me a new world of passion)
Amándome sin egoismo y sin razón
(Loving me without selfishness or reason)
Mas sin saber que era el amor
(But not knowing that it was love)
Yo protegi mi corazón
(I shielded my heart)
(The sun went off, and I remained singing your song,)
La soledad se aduena de toda emoción
(Loneliness robs me of all emotion)
Perdóname si el miedo robo mi ilusión
(Forgive me if fear took away my yearning)
Viniste a mi no supe amar
(You came to me, I did not know how to love you)
Y solo queda esta canción.
(And all that is left is this song.)

MIQUEL VIVES ARTÈS - R.I.P.

J'ATTENDRAI

Sadly, he passed away during the night of the 29th/30th of September. Curiously enough, it was his Saint's Day, Saint Michael.

He was well over eighty, probably ninety. Miquel Vives was my children's maternal grandfather, my father-in-law. I hadn't seen him in over 25 years, but I retain fond memories of us walking in the mountains of Vandellos, in Spain, or collecting olives on his land in those same mountains, and of our after-dinner conversations over a good glass of brandy and a strong "Faria", the Spanish cigar from Galicia.

I remember, especially, that night during the winter of '70/'71 when, driving up the mountain in a heavy snowstorm, his car got stuck. My two baby kids were in that car with their mother! Jaume, her brother, had to walk in the freezing cold and thick snow to the next village for help.
Miquel was an educated man with a vast and varied experience in a dozen different fields, ranging fron the Spanish Civil War, in which he participated, to running businesses, driving taxis, building and modernising houses and working the land.We quarelled back in '82 and never saw each other again, mainly because of his poor health, and also to avoid causing each other unnecessary stress. We did, however, respect each other. I am sure he will be sadly missed.

His favourite song was "j'attendrai" by Dino Oliveri and Louis Poterat/N.Rastelli. It's a French wartime song, based on an Italian song, that tells of waiting for one's loved one's return. Here it is, sung by Tino Rossi, courtesy of Youtube.com and maldoror26, thank you both. The song is, of course, quite old and so is the arrangement. Perhaps a more modern, and possibly more popular, version was Dalida's (1975), but this one, Tino Rossi's, retains a certain melancholic flavour which, I think, is particularly suitable for the occasion.

J'attendrai...(etc.)

REGINA SPEKTOR AND GENIUS NEXT DOOR

This song (from her latest album "Far") was sent to me recently by my son. The lyrics haven't stopped haunting me since.

Regina Spektor, an American, Russian-born singer, has a lovely voice and apparently writes very poetic songs. This particular one, "Genius next door", has a very soothing piano, backing her remarkably cool voice. No real emotion, just stating matter-of-fact what must be a typical tragedy in our society.

Porridge for prison? Prison being the closed circle kids find themselves thrown in when they enter the "lake" - an apparently beautiful drug paradise/wonderland- and/or the jail they eventually end up in; but they don't care.

The neighbours avoid talking about it - can't draw attention to their community, house prices would fall, scandal, shame, etc. - or find excuses "enchantment, weather", whereas the media is constantly looking for precisely that sort of thing to sell more papers, more TV programmes, though they treat it as an everyday affair "coffee, doughnuts". The garbage collectors just limit themselves to clearing the rubbish (syringes, corpses, etc.)

The chorus line:"Hold in your breath 'till you come back up in full" = pot, etc.
Whereas the second time she adds "... you fool!" = warning. The two sides of the same coin.

The genius is the youngster who goes about his ordinary, excitement-free life, ignored by the other kids, but secretly envying them. In the loneliness of his private world he has to resort to his hands, "his secret", for sexual satisfaction and "to get high".

Here's the video, courtesy of youtube.com and spektography (thank you), followed by the lyrics. Enjoy.

Some said the local lake had been enchanted,
others said it must have been the weather.
The neighbors were trying to keep it quiet,
but I swear that I could hear the laughter.
So they jokingly nicknamed it "the porridge",
'Cause overnight that lake had turned as thick as butter.
But the local kids would still go swimming, drinking,
saying that to them it doesn't matter.
If you just hold in your breath 'till you come back up in full.
Hold in your breath 'till you've thought it through, you fool.
The genius next door was bussing tables,
wiping clean the ketchup bottle labels,
getting high and mumbling German fables.
Didn't care as long as he was able
to strip his clothes off by the dumpsters
at night while everyone was sleeping
and wade midway into that porridge;
just him and the secret he was keeping.
If you just hold in your breath 'till you come back up in full.
Hold in your breath 'till you thought it through, you foolish child.
Ah! Ah!
In the morning, the film crews start arriving
with donuts, coffee, and reporters.
The kids were waking up hungover.
The neighbors were starting up their cars.
The garbage men were emptying the dumpsters.
Atheists were praying full of sarcasm,
and the genius next door was sleeping,
dreaming that the antidote is orgasm.
If you just hold in your breath 'till you come back up in full.
Hold in your breath 'till you thought it through, you foolish child.
Ah! Ah!

PAVAROTTI

Two years ago, the world lost a magic voice, a voice that has enchanted millions of music lovers. Today, I'd like to remember Pavarotti not only as a great opera singer, but especiually as a man who managed to get close to the ordinary people with his repertoire of popular songs. I wonder if in heaven the angels have stopped singing in order to listen to him? WIKIPEDIA HAS AN EXTENDED BIOGRAPHY WITH SEVERAL LINKS. YOUTUBE, OF COURSE, HAS A VERY LARGE SELECTION OF HIS MUSIC.

I had the good fortune of being able to see him, together with Josep Carreras and Placido Domingo, in their last World Tour Concert on 13/7/1997 at Barcelona Football Camp; an unforgettable experience.

That was one of my favourite songs (sung by Pavarotti, of course, although in this case we also have Placido Domingo and Josep Carreras - three for the price of one!). Here are three more: two are popular Napolitan songs - "Mamma" and "Torna a Sorrento". The other one is an extraordinarily beautiful Aria, "Una furtiva lacrima". Check out the great Caruso's version at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t936rzOt3Zc

MICHAEL JACKSON - A TRIBUTE

So much has been said about him that there is very little I can add; only my own impressions. Sadly, he ended up a grotesqque caricature of what I considered to be a real genius.

Unlike the other "Kings" - Elvis (rock) or Sinatra (swing) or Lennon (composer) - in addition to having a good voice and a talent for acting (see his thriller video) he could dance ..... and HOW he could dance! The man literally re-invented dancing - especially group dancing - and gave it the modern look. His choreographies were impeccable, creative, imaginative. His influence over stage dancing today is undeniable.

I want to remember him, though, as he was, in his original self, not as the surgically remastered figure that emerged in later years. That's why I chose this song, Ben. Sung in the early seventies - he was still singing with the Jackson Five then but was beginning to make a name for himself - it features the original Michael Jackson, with an excellent, though slightly immature voice. It also shows a really touching innocence which, unfortunately, was not going to last very long. I've often wondered if he didn't see himself as Ben and yearned for someone to sing this song to him.

Ben, the two of us need look no more / We both found what we were looking for /
With a friend to call my own / I'll never be alone /
And you my friend will see / You've got a friend in me (You've got a friend in me)
Ben, you're always running here and there (Here and there)
You feel you're not wanted anywhere (Anywhere)
If you ever look behind / And don't like what you find /
There's something you should know / You've got a place to go (You've got a place to go)

I used to say, "I" and "me" / Now it's "us", now it's "we" (I used to say, "I" and "me") (Now it's "us", now it's "we")

Ben, most people would turn you away / I don't listen to a word they say /
They don't see you as I do / I wish they would try to /I'm sure they'd think again / If they had a friend like Ben (A friend) Like Ben (Like Ben) Like Ben.

FRANZ FERDINAND

I suppose we all did something stupid at some time or other in our life, something we regret having done, something we probably wish we hadn´t done.

I remember a boat moored on the Thames. We were about 20 at the time and we'd had quite a bit to drink. We thought it would be fun to watch it drift down the river. So, we uncoiled the rope and gave it a little push. We then watched, first amused, and then horrified as the current gently steered it to the middle of the river towards rhe lock that loomed a short distance away in the darkness. We ran like there was no tomorrow.

SO WHO, AMONG ALL THE RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE OUT THERE WILL PICK UP THE FIRST STONE AND THROW IT.

I like this song. I like its message. I like the rythm, the music, the drive. I especially like the video, giving the impression they're walking on a treadmill in a gym, but in a very determined fashion. Good on you, lads. Sock it to them! as we used to say in my time.
Do the lyrics really need explaining? You can find some interesting comments on:

Here's the video, followed by the lyrics.

LILLY ALLEN

Born in West London, this 23 year old singer was “discovered” by a teacher while she was singing an “Oasis” song in the school playground. A childhood full of contrasts – she lived in a council house but went to expensive public schools – might have been the reason for her excesses in drinking and smoking, both of which got her expelled from school and into trouble later on in life. (See full biography at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lily_Allen

Her fear that the world as we know it is doomed, that creativity will eventually disappear and that sponsorship will pay for everything is clearly evident in her latest song “The Fear”. This last point is particularly worrying when you see famous people, such as actors, public figures, sportsmen and sportswomen, advertising from shampoo to cars. Surely these people earn more than enough from their activities. They do not need to advertise and take away the bread from honest, hard-working models and advertising actors and actresses, do they? Her statement in the song that taking your clothes off is not shameful is a clear indication that our moral values have suffered a serious battering. Having taken your clothes off, what do you do next to attract attention; have sex in public? Well that’s already happening on internet, with webcams, and on our mobile phones, with videos cameras. God help the coming generations.

Here’s The Fear. Video (courtesy of youtube.com) followed by the lyrics. Enjoy.

I want to be rich and I want lots of money.
I don´t care about clever I don´t care about funny.
I want loads of clothes and fuckloads of diamonds.
I heard people die while they are trying to find them.

I´ll take my clothes off and it will be shameless,
‘Cuz everyone knows that´s how you get famous.
I´ll look at the sun and I´ll look in the mirror;
I´m on the right track yeah I´m on to a winner.
[Chorus]
I don´t know what´s right and what´s real anymore.
I don´t know how I´m meant to feel anymore.
When we think it will all become clear,
‘Cuz I´m being taken over by The Fear.

Life’s about film stars and less about mothers;
it´s all about fast cars and cussing each other.
But it doesn´t matter cause I´m packing plastic.
and that´s what makes my life so fucking fantastic.

And I am a weapon of massive consumption,
and it´s not my fault it´s how I´m programmed to function.
I´ll look at the sun and I´ll look in the mirror;
I´m on the right track yeah we're on to a winner.

BARBRA STREYSAND

What an artist! Pure magic in her voice… and such lovely songs! She has also managed to do something quite unique ….blend her voice perfectly with that of other equally great and gifted singers. I’m thinking especially of Barry Gibb (Guilty), Celine Dion (Tell him) and Neil Young (You don’t bring me flowers). Her version of Memories (from the musical “Cats”) is absolutely stunning. And what about “The way we were”? I could go on forever. Thank you, Barbra, for those wonderful, magical, unforgettable and unrepeatable evenings by the fireside, listening to your absolutely enchanting voice.
Here she is, singing “Run Wild”, one of my favourites, from the album “Guilty”. Words & music by the Gibb brothers.

I wandered into your wonderland with eyes open wide.
You turned me into your yesterday, but you will remain inside
of me, like I care for you,
Oooh, I care for you.
Run wild,
out on the edge of time, child,
carry your dreams away, love.
No one can hurt you now,
for you are an island.

I may be broken, but understand, my love will get by.
There will be others along the way, my love, they will try
to care for me like I care for you,
Oooh I care for you.
Run wild,
out on the edge of time, child,
carry your dreams away, love.
No one can hurt you now,
for you are an island.

ELVIS

A belated Happy New Year to all. I thought it would be nice to inaugurate it with an Elvis Presley song. I was, and remain, one of his greatest fans. The outstanding quality of his voice, his musical range, the warmth he transmits, make him, as far as I am concerned, the best pop/rock singer ever.

I especially loved his early songs. Then he started to make those awful movies! Some of the songs in them were quite good, though. Nevertheless, my all-time favourite is not one you hear very often. In fact I'm prepared to bet most of you have never heard it. It's called "There's always me" and it really is one the most beautiful and tender songs I've ever heard. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Written by Don Robertson, it was recorded by Elvis in 1961 in Nashville.
I couldn't find a "live" video, but this one's not bad. The pictures are relaxing and the words on the screen are clear. The sound is very good. Thanks YOUTUBE, and thanks Jokarilon.

BRING 'EM BACK HOME

Here we are 10 days from Christmas and I can't help thinking about our lads abroad. My nephew's out there, somewhere. They never tell you where, though... shhhh...Military Secret!
So many have died.
They haven't stopped dying, you know. They started dying during the local tribal wars. They fought and died against the Romans. They died when the Vikings came over. They died during the Norman conquest. They died on the American Continent. They died fighting the French, the Spaniards, the Germans, and almost every other nation in Europe. They went on dying further away from home, in Africa, in India, in the Middle East. How many fields are soaked with their blood? How many lands have become their final resting place? How many homes have been shattered by the death of their younger members, and their older members, or by the injuries that were inflicted on them? How long must our boys and girls go on fighting other people's wars away from home? Were we invited there I wonder? Did we ask our lads for their opinion? Did they volounteer to go? Are we now more comfortable in our centrally-heated homes and our aerodinamic-designed cars and the latest telecom gadgets because of their supreme sacrifice? Was it really worth it? To us, I mean; to the people. Not to the petrol companies or their shareholders, or the arms manufacturers; No I'm sure they're not terribly concerned. "Keep it flowing" is their motto; whatever the cost.
Well I say the cost is too high. I say let's make sure that if the lads have to go and face death they do it with their eyes wide open and on a strictly voluntary basis. No Briton should ever be forced again to die far from home. I should think a National Debate is long overdue. Let's ALL do something about it. If you are short of ideas, then copy this posting and send it to the Prime Minister, or to your head of government, to your MP or to your Government Representative. And why not to the newspapers? In fact to anyone with any kind of influence. Let's do everything possible to bring them back home.... and to keep them here.
I chose this song because of my nephew's Scottish ancestry, on his father's side. But mostly I chose it to honour those who didn't make it back home. We used to gather round the fireplace on New year's Eve and watch Andy Stewart's show on TV. We all loved him. God bless you Andy for the many hours of joy you gave us, and God bless you lads and lasses, wherever you may be posted. Come home safely and may Xmas be a happy occasion for you all.

Here's the video (Composed by Andy Stewart himself) below. It was posted on youtube.com by chizz32 on 29th july 2008. Thanks chizz32. Enjoy .... and don't forget our lads!

There was a soldier, a Scottish soldier, who wandered far away, and soldiered far away.
There was none bolder, with good broad shoulder. He'd fought in many a fray, and fought and won.
He's seen the glory and told the story of battles glorious and deeds victorious.
But now he's sighing, his heart is crying to leave those green hills of Tyrol.
Because those green hills are not highland hills,
or the island hills, they're not my land's hills.
And fair as these green foreign hills may be
they are not the hills of home
And now this soldier, this Scottish soldier who wandered far away, and soldiered far away,
sees leaves are falling, and death is calling and he will fade away, in that far land.
He called his piper, his trusted piper and bade him sound alay, a pi-broch sad to play
up on a hillside, but Scottish hillside, not on those green hills of Tyrol...
Chorus
And so this soldier, this Scottish soldier will wander far no more, and soldier far no more,
and on a hillside, a Scottish hillside, you'll see a piper play his soldier home.
He's seen the glory, he's told the story of battles glorious and deeds victorious.
The bugles cease now, he is at peace now far from those green hills of Tyrol..
Chorus

A BEAUTIFUL DUET

This is a lovely song recommended to me by my son and his wife. It was sung at the 2007 Latin Grammy Awards. One of the best duets I've ever heard, Andrea Bocelli (tenor) and Laura Pausini, both italians, were probably the best part of the evening. The melody is so powerful and the words are just so ... right. Live your life without fear; you need experiences to create memories.

Here's the video, with lyrics below. (For an English/Italian version click on Dare to Live photo on the left)

VIVE YA -
Sung by Andrea Bocelli and Laura Pausini

Yo tan solo tengo a mi vida

Te digo no ...... Te digo sí ....... Atrévete.... Y vive

LOVE OF MY LIFE

The words used were "Disappointing", "poor", and "not the same". I am of course referring to the Queen + Paul Rodgers Tour.

I was never really a fan of Queen, though I have to admit that Freddy Mercury's voice is outstanding. The lyrics are also good, and some of their songs are quite exeptional.

This one's my favourite. Written and composed by Freddy mercury, it first appeared on the night at the Opera album.

whereas English readers will no doubt prefer the following one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_of_My_Life
Video and lyrics, as usual. Enjoy.

Love of my life, you hurt me. You've broken my heart and now you leave me.
Love of my life can't you see. Bring it back, bring it back. Don't take it away from me,
because you dont know what it means to me. (beautiful)
Love of my life dont leave me. You've stolen my love, you now now desert me.
Love of my life cant you see. Bring it back, bring it back. Don't take it away from me,
because you dont know what it means to me.
You will remember when this is blown over and everything's all by the way.
When I grow older, I will be there at your side to remind you how I still love you, I still love you.
Hurry back. Hurry back. Don't take it away from me,
because you don't know what it means to me.
Love of my life,Love of my life.
OOOHHH.

L'AMITIÉ & FRANCOISE HARDY

I first heard this song at the end of a film "Les invasions barbares", a really touching and moving story about dying with dignity, surrounded by friends. I strongly recommend it.
The video, an early playback, does not really do justice to the song, but Francoise Hardy's voice is so pure! I can listen to her all day.

A HAPPY SONG

A few days ago, I found myself humming a catchy tune. It was a while before I realised what song it was and it took me back to my teens, and my first girlfriend, Rosemary (Rosy). I wonder what’s become of her? Anyway, here’s the song, “Love grows” by Edison Lighthouse (singer Tony Burrows – who left them only a year later) -a lovely, happy tune from the late sixties. Believe it or not, this group is still in demand as a live act, a testimony of their ability to entertain audiences.
Hope you enjoy it; Lyrics below the video.

Words and music by Tony Macauley & Barry Mason
She ain't got no money, her clothes are kinda funny, her hair is kinda wild and free.
Oh, but Love grows where my Rosemary goes and nobody knows like me.
She talks kinda lazy and people say she's crazy and her life's a mystery.
Oh, but Love grows where my Rosemary goes and nobody knows like me.

There's something about her hand holding mine, it's a feeling that's fine. and I just gotta say:
She's really got a magical spell and it's working so well that I can't get away.

I'm a lucky fella and I've just got to tell her that I love her endlessly,
because Love grows where my Rosemary goes and nobody knows like me.

AMY WINEHOUSE

What can I say about this remarkable English singer (London) that hasn't been said before? 25 years old, jazz/soul, MTV award, Grammy Award, Best Song Award for "Rehab", Best female singer, best..., best... & best... I could go on.

Just listen to this tremendous voice singing a really powerful song: Rehab by Amy Winehouse - from the album "Back from Black". The video is from the Glastonbury Concert.
Lyrics below. Enjoy

(official page - worth a visit: http://www.amywinehouse.co.uk/)

They tried to make me go to rehab, I said no, no, no. Yes I been black, but when I come back, you won't know, know, know. I ain’t got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine. He’s tried to make me go to rehab, I wont go, go, go.
I’d rather be at home with Ray. I ain’t got 70 days, 'Cos there’s nothing, there's nothing you can teach me that I can’t learn from Mister Hathaway. I didn’t get a lot in class, but I know it don’t come in a shot glass. They’re trying to make me go to rehab, etc..
The man said, why you think you're here? I said, I got no idea. I'm gonna, I'm gonna loose my baby, so I always keep a bottle near. Said, I just think you’re depressed, kiss me, yeah baby, and the rest. They're trying to make me go to rehab, etc.
I don’t ever wanna drink again I just, ooo, need a friend. I'm not gonna spend 10 weeks, have everyone think I'm on the mend. It’s not just my pride. It’s just till these tears have dried
They’re trying to make me go to rehab, etc..
